The Most Important Thing in Life on Earth!

"Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent." John 17:3

No one can make you believe in anything, much less in God. However, the bible says it is necessary to eternal life. In fact it was Jesus who gave us this definition of eternal life.

The Letter to the Hebrews asserts: "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him." Hebrews 11:6

The universe shows the presence of design. Design shows the presence of a Designer. King David, while still a shepherd boy, wrote: "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge." To attempt to explain the creation without a Creator is akin to explaining a house without a builder.

The bible indicates that God created all the universe and placed man on the earth knowing he would selfishly sin. It seems to me that God desired a creature with the ability to choose a relationship with Him, or to reject that relationship.

When Adam and Eve sinned, by defying God's order, God covered their nakedness with skins of innocent animals. This set a precedent of the innocent bearing the penalty for the guilty.

Following this event man sacrificed an annimal as a sin offering to God recognizing that "the soul who sins is the one who will die" Ezekiel 18:20.

The bible further says, "All have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Romans 3:23

Since all have sinned we should be deeply concerned that the bible says, "The wages of sin is death......Romans 6:23a

However, God's word says, "God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us."  Romans 5:8  And, " but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 6:23b

If there is a remote possibility these things are true (I am convinced they are) then it would be wise to find out how to accept this gift of eternal life.

The bible comes to our rescue, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." Romans 10:9-10

If Jesus is Lord there are certian things which will naturally follow. The timing will be different for each individual but these things seem to be universal.

There will be a desire for Christian fellowship. Society, guided by Satan, will try to moderate or completely destroy this desire.

Regretably many churches seem to cooperate with this. New believers are often made to jump through so many hoops they give up in disgust. New believers see the scramble for position in the church as being little different from the politics of the world.

However life will come out. The Holy Spirit in the new believer will continue to woo and win them to the new life.

Several things are important for Christian growth.

1. Prayer accompanied by Bible reading.

2. Bible study with a goal of sharing with others.

3. Fellowship in a group of people to whom God will guide you. Never let a person persuade you without God's direction.

4. Participation in worship and the outreach activities of the church.

5. Complete reliance on  Holy Spirit in all matters of faith and practice.
